I just came home for the weekend to work on my car and unfortunately forgot my key. The Toyota dealership said that they cant cut me a new key with the VIN number because its so old. They told my dad the only way they could is if I had a the 5 digit code off of the right side door lock cylinder. If this is true, how can I get to this? I take it its on the inside, or you at least have to be inside the car in order to pop the door handle out?

Also, is this 5 digit combo the same for all or most of our cars? Hopefully somebody will know it? The car is an 1988 non turbo chassis.

Yes, that is correct as for the code. You have to get in to the car unfontunitly to take the handle out to get the lock cylinder out to get the number.

Auto stores in Florida sell slim jims? Lol, damn. What a country. In many states it's illegal to own them.

I agree with cj. Fwiw the MKIII has to be one of the easiest cars to slim jim I've ever seen. I can do one in less than 5 seconds. It'd take someone without practice all of 15.

Can't you just call up a police officer? I don't know if they do that down there, but I've had a cop unlock my car a few times.

Just call a locksmith. Even if it is legal to own a slim jim in your state (it's illegal to own them in MOST states, but not to sell them... lol), you can do more damage by not knowing how to use it.

I strongly recommend against pulling back on the window, you can damage the window's tracks, break the rollers, or worse.
