Piston question

Ok so my machine shop contacted me today, and they told me that i'm going to need new pistons and rings. Can anyone recommend some pistons tat aren't meant to go balls out with like JE, CP, ect. Some low budget pistons that are offered in at least .20 over from stock bore. Would it be better in my interest to just get another set of stock 7m-gte pistons? That is of course if the block is still in stock tolerance's to the pistons.

Probe makes some affordable forged pistons, but if you want to go with stock style cast pistons in oversize, you can get NPR's. Check out driftmotion.com, they have both sets that i mentioned

Did they say why? Did you ask just for a rehone or something? The block is probably out of round from usage.

I bought stock .5mm over in 2003. 7 years ago is quite some time, and stock is not exactly a good deal considering it is a cast piston.

Yea, they found a nick, in my number 5 cyclinder.....so they honed it out, it took .2mm to do so, so they suggested to get .20 over, (.5mm) and match all the cylinders.

Hes was trying to be smart.. You mean .020 not .20.

Since the shop has done the .020 over boring and honing already, forged pistons require cetain tolerances when preping the block. Guys correct me if im wrong...

The cylinder bores are honed to get exact clearnace with your piston. They didn't do the hone yet. Unless they are total idiots of machinists, and my guess is they are not.

They only did the rough cut, the bore part.

ok just t get a idea of what i did, and what im going to need to get....this is starting to make since...so i think i may order the Probe .020 over stock bore Forged Pistons from DM....and then go from there

Im in the same boat as you. I have a standard block and im about to do .020 over Probe pistons and Eagle rods, self ported rebuilt head,arp mains, studs and flywheel bolts. Im gonna have the machine shop balance everything and clearance everything for a 500 +rwhp build. Hey good luck and keep posted.

For sure I have a build thread in my signature....i try to update that as much as possible, but other then that, I visited my block today at the machine shop, but for got my camera They told me the .020 over NPR's from DM should be a good investment. But they don't know how the rings are going to do, cause they are steel...anyways, till i get something else done or get more pics : )
