I am looking for a machine shop in either the King of Prussia area, or the Harrisburg area of PA. I am living in Maine, and have been unable to locate a machine shop that can test the hardness of an Aluminum head. I have family in both places, and can have them do some of the legwork for me.

What I have is a 1988 7MGTE. The engine has been torn down for awhile now. Looking at the cylinder walls, I'll need to have the block bored out a bit. Before I go any further, I want to make sure the head is solid. If OK, then I can port it, take it to a local shop, have them inspect the walls, then order the pistons and have everything machined so that I can reassemble the engine.

But, step one is to have the head checked. If anyone has any leads or recommendations, I would greatly appreciate it. I will be driving to Harrisburg over Christmas, and can deliver the head then.

Thanks

I use a place called Gilberts. They are located in Lancaster (45 min east of Harrisburg)Not sure they can do what you need but it couldn't hurt to call and find out. 717-394-0604 They where the only machine shop in Lancaster Co. that would touch my head when I needed it rebuilt and balanced. They will be getting my block over the winter to bore and balance the bottom end.

Good luck.

Thanks for the number. I might call them. I think I'll move my post to the main forum to if anyone else has anything closer.
