So i just had a thought, since i have a laptop and a car that might be running soon, i might want to get some software for my laptop where i would be able to get into my cars computer and tinker, maybe get some better gas mileage.

and i know that you can just get an expensive high performance ecu or something like that, but i'm not getting one of those anytime soon(never). so do any of you use a software or something of that sorts

Sorry to burst your bubble, but you can't (easily or cheaply) connect a computer to our ECU... The only practical way of changing sensor signals and responses with the stock ECU is with a piggyback system such as the MAFT Pro. Otherwise you're looking at a full standalone system which replaces the stock ECU.

i know there are a few others but from what ive gathered; to make it worthwhile go with maftpro or standalone. AEM, megasquirt, MOTEC...etc

Unlike some manufactures ECU's that have serial connections, and replaceable/reprogramable PROM chips. Our ECU is locked down tighter than Fort Knox. The only method of input is to modify the sensor input signals with various piggy backs like mentioned above.
