Painting the Block

Just want to know the basics of this - as i'm tired of staring at rust. Want to have the block painted silver, and just clean up the head. I'm guessing the standard prep work applies in as far as degreasing and brushing with a wire brush, but what sort of paint to get? and how to make sure you dont paint on the gasket surfaces?

Clean the Block got like you said then use prepsol and wipe it down good a couple times then use engine paint it is for high heat. That should do it.

Degrease the block very well and prep it how you want it depending on how rough or whatver you want the outer edge to look like and use high temp paint.

a) Whats prepsol (remember me = non-US)
b) how do you mask the parts off that you dont want to paint? masking tape and paper or is there another method?

^ I just painted it all, then when it was 'hard but still soft' I scraped it off very carefully and I think it turned out awesome. The things I taped up I just used clear tape to get nice clean lines. I wish I had pics of it, it looked wicked bad all taped up.

Masking tape then cut the outline of the gasket out with a sharp knife.
Prepsol is a cleaner like acetone.

use painters tape to tape off what not want painted, prep work as they stated before and if uising a rattle can for the paint make sure it is high temp engine paint and use a good coat of high temp primer first. should turn out fine for you.
