Hey guys

So while waiting for my vacuum lines I decided to be proactive and remove that disgusting plastic that was hanging of my side-strips. Ive seen the sticky regarding painting your side-strips but the car will be getting a respray eventually so i didn't want to remove them to paint them. I decided to mask the car up and paint it while they where still on.

As with any painting , preparation is the key and took the longest. Made sure it was done 100% right.

Took quite some time to trace out the Toyota Supra lettering (wanted to keep it white)

but well worth it in the end... (still have to use a smaller paintbrush to clean up the edges)

Black all round , including the rear later model insert , this made the tail lights look like they belong a bit more then before (due to it all being one colour)

Decide to spray my lip while I was at it...meh..why not :)

My initial objective was to pull the old 3.0L letters off and put the 3.0L turbo badge on .... looking much better

Finished result , it took some time but was well worth it IMO

Personally I would have went with post 89 moldings, but this, no doubt, is a vast improvement over unpainted trim. Looks good!

Post 89 moldings? How are they different? do you have a pic?

i plan to respray the entire body , at which time everything is coming of anyway. This is just to keep it looking semi-decent in the meantime

The middle trim piece on the tails is post 89.

so are the lights...I know this..I did the tail light swap. Part of my motivation for painting the strips was the fact that a distinction could be made between the pre89 trim and the middle trim piece as they were different colors.

since the entire thing is black now it should be less noticeable.

The post 89 moldings are about 1/4 the weight of the older ones too. It's been a while, I don't remember actual weights, but I remember being surprised how much the old metal backed stuff weighed compared to the all plastic ones.

If you follow the link in my sig there's a few big pictures of the late style moldings on my car.
