So today started like any other day. I get up, shower, eat, make a lunch, and walk to work. I'm walking on the shoulder of the road and I catch a bright yellow object rolling up beside me out of the corner of my eye. I was turned my head to see what sort of car this was, fully expecting a riced Civic, Audi, or something else.
As I'm turning my head my mind goes into Car Identification Mode... I only had to take in the front 5% of the car before I got a confirmed match... Lotus Esprit!!!!! At this point my head swiveling changes from casual turn and glance to super-swivel-mode-and-lock. Here was a 2002-2004 Lotus Esprit sitting not more than 10 feet away from me, I could have literally taken two or three steps and touched it. It looked identical to this.
Enormous self control was required to keep from jumping up and down and yelling "OMG!!!!1!one! I <3 YOUR CAR!!!!". I barely let it out of my sight for as long as possible (as much as I could without the driver thinking I was going to try to hijack his car). I've always been a big fan of the Esprit. It's one of the few cars I've been considering as an alternative to a MKIV Supra. I have to keep telling myself they will be too much money to maintain. And just when I thought I had talked some sense into myself I see my first one in person on the road and I want one all over again...
Pictures do not do this car justice. Oh, and the sound. *sigh* Plus the very fact that less than 10,000 were made from 1976 to 2004 (if I recall correctly) makes them more special to see in person.
Anyway, I just had to tell someone. There's no one around me at work who shares my enthusiasm of cars (another intern here drives a Neon with no AC or cruise control and I think I overheard my manager saying something about a Civic. Ugh), and my girlfriend isn't online yet, and probably won't be for a few more hours.
