Ok, well I am looking at either selling the supra I just bought 2 days ago as a parts car or junking it, because to repair the rust on that car is going to cost me too much and before I sink money into it, I decided just to get another supra... well sure enough this supra has rust as well, the guy swears, as i have told him the reason i want his supra that the rust is surface and it does NOT go through the wheel well... well I want your opinions...

the car is $800, he has new tires, new rotors and new pads on it, just redid the heads and all the gaskets (fixed BHG), needs a starter installed and has the starter sitting in the car right now... it has 170k miles on it, and all around looks fine aside from this rust....

from your opinions, what kinda rust would you say this is? surface or all the way through the panel, he knows I am coming to look at it, and swears that it is just surface, but I am paranoid :-/

I would think reguardless if its just surface that rust would be hard to stop from coming through again without cutting it out and replacing the metal. Sorry!!!

It's all the way through. Most body rust looks like surface rust, but when it's spread that large, it's too late. As soon as you sand it you'll have holes.

*sigh* I dont think I am going to find a supra in MD that is rust free :-/ without spending a good solid amount of money I didn't hope to spend on a project car :-/

after a quick search in the for sale section, I realized the owner is from the site as well :-D. I really do hope it is surface rust...

That type of rust because of the wheel well lip that's in behind there. The only way for it to rust is if crud stays there wet for a looooong time. So, it's rusting through =) When (if) you grind that out, you'll be left with not a whole lot of wheel well left and replacing that area with new metal.

But for 800 bucks, you won't find something in much better condition :)
