my car's been throwing code 52 sence i got a knock sensor from a 5MGE and replaced my broken original. alot of guys here say it's probley the wiring, but i'd like to make sure my sensor is ok before i get a re-wire kit. i've read to put a volt meter on it and tap it and see if i get a reading, less than a volt is ok, others say to check for milliamps. well i tried both and got nothing. both times i put the red(+) wire in the sensor on the tab, and then tired the black(-) on the opposite end, and on the negitive on the battery. then taped on it. and nothing. I also tested it for resitance by putting the + on the tab again, and the - on the other end, and their not touching at all, unlike if you touched the - and the + togther, and it reads down to zero, so no reading that way.

Is that ok way to test it?
Is my KS bad?

i dont know if my KS is the problem or if the wiring is.
Please help.-Brian

If there is no reading from the part of the sensor that screws into the car against the electrical clip, then that would throw a code 52 because the circuit is open. How hard were you tapping the body of the sensor?
The best way is to tap the block with a socket extension pretty hard while readin voltage from the clip on the sensor to the block itself. If you still get no reading, try another KS.

i preaty sure im tapping hard enough, but im confused on where put the wires from the volt meter. and does the sensor need to be in the block, others say to take it out, but do they mean to still leave it pluged in? does the car need to be on?

if i put the + on the threaded part, where do i put the -?
if its in the block, do i just put the + on the tab in the sensor? then where for the -?

sorry i sound like i know nothing, but im just confused and want to figure this out so it can be taken care of.

ok i found out my wiring is good because i tested it for continuity from the plug at the sensor all the way to where it goes into the ECU, and it was fine, good connection all the way. so now i know that the sensor i got off the MKII 5MGE is BAD.
