what is needed to do a 2j swap..... I know the basics, but w was wondering what are all the odds and ends. I would switch to a standalone for ease of install. What else needs to be done. ac removal ps..... how hard of a job is it. I also know the stock twins will not fit.

So in essence how hard is it. My car is a 89 turbo, look at it......

its a pretty straight forward swap. Have you tried search on the site. I am sure that there is some info on here about it.

Is your car an early 89 with the square motor mounts or is it a late 89 with the round mounts?

To make the sway easier, you need the later style sub frame (later round engine mount setup)

You are going to need to either make custom mount stands or import a set of the cast aluminum mount stands from a JAZ70 (mkiii with 1jz).

Transmission is going to be a problem to a point also. To use the R154, you will need the bellhousing from the JZA70. To use the W58, you will need the bellhousing from a mkiv N/A 5sp. if going auto, you will need the Bellhousing from a Auto mkiv.

These are just a few things that come to mind off-hand.

Try searching, I am sure that you will fine a lot of other info about it.

On the wiring subject, I really don't see how making an entire engine harness for a standalone would be easier then wiring up a few body connectors on a stock mk4 harness. A standalone will be a lot more work unless you can get a complete prewired harness. All it takes is buying the dealer electrical tsrm for about $20 and also studying the various electrical diagrams posted online. We used a new US 2jz-gte mk4 harness on the one we are doing now, and that will let him plug a stand-alone right in if he decides to go that way in the future. I'm not saying a stand-alone is a bad idea, just that it is going to complicate the swap more then make it easier.

Stock twins most definately fit, and we have working air conditioning!

So what is the deal with the oil pan will a jspec 2j pan work, I read somthing about using a US na pan. And about the ac the only reall issue are the lines correct. How abbout keeping the tems, is that hard to do? In addition will a new US harness with a factory japan map sensor. JDM engins have smaller injectors and I have RC 550s now can I use them on the 2j? I heard that you need a US ecu to use a US harness, is there a way I can use a Jspec ecu with a US harness. Also what are the major body conectors that I would have to add to the harness? Also what is needed for the clutch?
This is what I know right now...... please fill in what im leaving out or correct whats wrong......

Will use JDM 2jz (non VVTI)
Buy a US wireing harness
Change the oil pan to a rear sump
ECU? jdm us or standalone
Map sensor? keep or go with US maf
Upgrade injectors
Water pump???? Whats the deal with that?
Custon DP and Intercooler install
Custom PS and AC lines
Body Connectors?
1j bellhousing
bic motor mounts (mine is a early 89)
..
...
....
What else is needed?

Please bigarron help.

Thanks

Joseph

But money does, im a college senior studying mechanical engineering and I would rather put parts on my car than pay the rent or put food in the fridge. I plan on getting a good job starting in the spring. Like I said, my father works for toyota, so if he stumbles on some parts I might need, it would help. About the clutch I just bought a brand new spec stg.3 will that work in the new setup, or do you use a 2j clutch.

Thanks for all the help and I will be in contact with you. If you get a very cleen 2j let me know. This is a show car so it has to be super cleen. Like I said I will have the money in the spring and i will give credit where it is due.
Thanks

Joseph
