hey i want to install my oil temp gauge i just bought, i was going to put i into the oil filter housing but when i pulled the bolt out a spring and valve came out with it, i looked into what it is at work and found out its a pressure relief valve.

so my question is where do i install the temp gauge, i dont really want to start removing valves....

Welcome to SupraForums... oh, wait.

Personally, I'd either add a sandwich plate adapter to the oil filter or install an oil filter relocation kit and T into the line. I suppose you could T it in with the oil pressure sender, I'm not sure how accurate that'd be.

Sigh...

What you need is an adapter block.

MSRP $70

I think I sell them for around $65

Nick already answered your question with the diagram he posted from the TSRM.

If you look at the flowchart on the bottom you will see that the relief valve is an integral part of your oil system. If you remove the valve, the oil will bypass your oil filter, go through the oil cooler and back to the pan. It will not get filtered, nor will it go through your engine... You'll blow the motor.

When something simple and obvious like that is posted, and you come back with comments like:

i know the oil system

then people lose interest in helping you. You don't know the oil system. If you did, you wouldn't be asking this question.

In my signature it says:

"The greatest obstacle to discovery is not ignorance -- it is the illusion of knowledge."

Those aren't just words. If you had looked at that diagram, you could have learned the answer to your question on your own. But instead you came back with "i know the oil system".
