Started leaking and dripping alot of oil. determined the oil pump drive is leaking at the front cover. There's alot of play in and out which seems to be the cause (see video).

Do I really have to pop the head to get that cover off ? it has MHG with studs and if I do have to remove the head can I get away with just loosening the studs and lifting the head enough to get the cover off and then on ?

I really don't want to pull the engine to get this done.....

Ya unfortunately you have to remove the head unless youre looking for future leaks. Not to mention the pan should be removed as it seals against that cover as well. Who knows what shavings have gotten into your motor as well. You cant lift the head and put it back down, once water and oil gets between the gasket it wont seal properly. Might be SOL, best option is to pull the motor and replace anything bad as well as inspect the other components like bearings for damage.
