Hi Guys,

Just noticed today there is a ton of oil coming out of the seal between the engine and the sump, an area between two bolts is quirting oil out, SCARY! I'm so blessed to have noticed it so soon, my oil pressure guage aint working!

Question, What is the easiest way to take off the sump, clean both surfaces and reseal it?

I've heard some saying its easier hoisting it up and taking off the cross member, is this true, any on here with experience on this?

Or do I have to take the whole engine out?

I have a 1987 N/A Supra MKIII

You don't have to take the engine out, but with a hoist and the right tools, you can do that in about an hour and half. With experience.

With a hoist, it is quicker to lower the craddle and suspension.

Seal it with Toyota FIPG.

Ok thanks!

FIPG, does that stand for something?

AHhh, I did some looking, FIPG = Form-In-Place-Gasket

Would you recommend the Toyota stuff over stuff like Permatex?

Toyota brand is pricey, but it has never failed me. Inadequate dealers may not carry it if their inadequate techs don't ask for it. I have seen that once.

It will fail with old age, but you will wreck the car or destroy the engine first.

Ok, I'll go with that, I only live a few minutes away from Toyota Spares.

Thanks for sharing your experience. =)
