oil leak question

i have a bad hose on the oil cooler. is it possible to just buy a hose from the local auto parts store for the replacement?

Yeah, you can use 3/8" hose. Its a tight fit, heating up the hose end in some boiling water helps stretch it over the fitting (credit to IJ on that one). Just make sure it is oil safe hose.
