I was going to be doing a filter relocation and new oil cooler upgrade on my car. I read the thread about the full flow thermostat controlled relocation kit jdub made. I was wondering if there are any side effects or downfalls of running a cooler without a thermostat. I live in arizona if that makes any difference.

You will just over-cool the oil and cold oil is thicker oil so its not better, you want it at proper operating temperature, not too hot not too cold.

^ i agree but have managed with out for the last few months (life,baby,etc..) I cut out cardboard boxes that fit the cooler perfectly and on the colder days (less then 50F) i cover the cooler....

Other wise ive noticed no difference in operating temps (warm up time) or when oil pressure reaches the normal levels. You WILL have to remove the boxes on your own so a good oil pressure gauge and an understanding of when is needed... Outside temps play a HUGE role on overall oil PSI in regards to how quickly things get up to temp/psi/normal for your setup
