I have a 1988 toyota supra non-turbo that might have a radiator problem.for some strange reason the temp gauge fluxuates to the red line and back to the normal area which is in the midle.when i drove home from work i noticed that it was steaming froom the radiator.i only had the radiator since june of this year.and when i open the radiator cap when she is cold "before starting' it's always low. Then i look in the over-flow and it is almost full.like the fluid runs into the over-flow which makes the car over heat.bought a knew thermistat and is still doing the same thing. can somebody help:bowdown:

i think if i flush out the radiator that might help since i don't have any heat as well.when i got it back from the dealership from a different problem they put red antifreeze in.if u mix red and green antifreeze is that a serious problem.

I've "heard" that mixing them is bad. Supposedly, it turns acidic, and will tend to eat aluminum parts. I haven't found any evidence of that yet...

Engine cold, pull the t.stat, and take the lower hose off. Stick a water hose in the t.stat housing, and let water run until clean water comes out of the water pump. You can rinse out the heater core and radiator the same way. Replace the t.stat., and reinstall all the hoses. Add a bottle or 2 of Prestone coolant system flush, and top off with water. Read the directions when you buy it, to make sure you buy enough. After you've run the flush the correct amount of time(6 hrs. driving time, I believe), pull the t.stat and lower hose, and flush the motor and radiator out with a hose again until the water runs clear. Pull the drain bolt out of the block(under the exhaust, around cyl. 5, iirc), and drain all the water. Replace drain bolt, t.stat., and hoses. Fill with premixed coolant of your choice. Green is fine. I change mine once a year, and it stays green year round. You ned to buy 3 gallons of the premixed, iirc.

Edit: Oh yeah, get a new radiator cap.

yo hey man, i have had the worst luck with cooling problems with my 86.5. everything but hg. and that is on it way out. but i remeber i was having a similiar problem back in june. one thing you can do is check coolant hoses for tiny holes cause i hear even the tiniest do some stuff. one thing that alot of people over look is the clutch fan. and i'm not sure if you do have that waterfall sound behind your dash, but you can burp it. some times that helps, and lastly the water pump which isn't that hard to do, its just a little time consuming. umm still not working then you could have the bhg. but everything is only to my knowledge and my experience, but i hope this helps.
