no sparks

need some help...well i hooked up my battary lines on but got no sparks...is that suppose to happen or is there something wrong with the starter? what did i do wrong or did i forget to do something?

Does the car crank properly? ----YES----> Your starter is fine
-------------------------------NO------>There are other problems that MIGHT include the starter

Have you checked your wiring? Your codes? Need more info.
