hey guys whats goin on? i recently found out that this supra down the street from my house is forsale for 800 dollars. its very clean, good shiny maroon paint, 5 speed turbo. year 1987

the guys says it doesnt run... spun a bearing. also for some reason he removed the cams "to check if they were in spec" ... whatever

so here i am up on the fence. i could go buy it for around 700, or not. a bunch of people are whispering in my ear that it wont be worth the trouble and that theyre very unreliable and all this other crap... but on the other hand im thinking well it cant be worse than my friends DSM.

ill probly end up replacing the whole crank, and bearings, plus who knows what else like maybe the turbo is bad, or some other bs....

what do u guys think about this?

thanks! :aigo:

Okay first off I wouldnt take advice on car reliabilty from a DSM owner. Just my thoughts on that subject. Secondly, spun bearing? Hmm... sounds to me like this car was either abused, not well maintained or the owner was an idiot. Possibly all three. What condition is the rest of the car in? How many miles? Whats the interior/exterior like? Tranny conditon? And lastly does it have a clean title? Judging from the sound of it, it looks like you have a helluva potential project. GTE's can be had for a fairly decent price, assuming the trans isn't in bad shape you could have this thing up and running like new, or almost so, for well under 4 grand including the cost of the car. If you want a project and have some money to burn I say go for it.

i'm not sure if that is accurete im $4000 into my car including the cars cost and i built my engine so i think if you find a good deal on an engine you could have a running driving fun car for about half that. or if you got the cash just pull the engine, take it to a machine shop and see if it's useable for a build and do that be research on this site first so you know what your doing.as long as you willing to get your hands dirty and your feet wet i think you found a great deal. i say go for it. good luck.

That was intended to be a rough guesstimate. I am not sure if he is going to have a shop do the work or he is, what parts he will use or even if he gets screwed into paying way to much for a GTE engine.
