Toyota isn't dumb, there is no money in sports cars today. Need I remind you about the cost of gas? Additionally, history repeats itself, so look at the quality of cars in the 70's gas crunch. People weren't buying near as many cars, so the automakers cut the crap out of quality to maximize profits. They're doing the same today...

Auto manufacturer's produce uninspired shit because it's what the dumb m(asses) want.

The same dumb m(asses) that made American Idol & Survivor popular.

The same dumb m(asses) that made Wal-Mart the most sucessful retail chain ever.

People want shit, and compaines are just catering to what people want.

Feh...

I hate people...

And if you don't believe me, why were Supra sales so low? The better the car got, the fewer people bought them. People don't want superior products. They want a fucking minivan... It's not Toyota's fault. They TRIED to sell superior, and got screwed doing it.

i'm w/ you 100% on that one, man... toyota tried in the past, but the majority of people simply couldn't understand or comprehend what toyota was doing :-/... i guess that's why toyota started to lose money

edit: and props to toyota for bringing their supercar to the U.S. in the past 1jz or not :D

That's a well established American sports car though. Like when you hear little kids say their dream car...it'll probably be either a Corvette or a Viper. The trouble with the Supra and other asian sports cars (Acura NSX for example) I think is that it didn't have the foundation here that the European cars and American cars had.

The japanese cars had a bad rep of being cheap and reliable, so why would someone want an expensive japanese car when they're supposed to be cheap!?

Sounds like stupid reasoning I know, but remember...this is America.

your saying people dont want sports cars, but look at chevy and the corvette, its selling like hot cakes. they dont care about gas, obviously...otherwise they would go out and buy a hybrid or something.
it's america... old americans w/ money + corvette = huge market, that's the plain truth... even if it were slow as hell, i honestly dont' think the majority would care, they'd still sell like crazy, as long as it had a large, highly inefficient v8 producing nearly twice the amount of toque as horsepower ;)

stupid reasoning for stupid people... just the way it goes :-/, i'm kinda curious about sales in japan though... what sports cars do they have? seems like there would be a large demand for japanese supercars there

In toyota's defense the new 07 camry with the v6 and optional 6 speed runs a 14.5 1/4 mile and still gets 32mpg, so for a sedan Id buy one of those, but yea they lost it all when they killed the supra, then the clica, then the MR-s but since I prefered the MR2 I really didn't car, of course toyota builds the engines for the elise and thats like an mr2 and thats close enough for me LOL. If they brought back a well engineered well thought out high performance car named supra they may see huge sales on it, but I worry if they ever did they'd do like nissan or mazda with thier NA POS overwieght over luxury junk with a high sticker price and low performance. For 30+k the 350z is lackluster in performance, I'd rather have a cobra lol, the RX-8 is an NA rotorary, thats good mazda, looks like crap and has no boost so not only does it lack torque cuz its a rotary but it likes power cuz its only 1.3L and has no turbo, ohhh yea and its a lot heavier than the RX-7.
