I just acquired this head..7MGTE with upgraded valve and springs...Now after I open the box, I inspected the head very very carefully and found this which caused me to question more about this unit before sending it to the machine shop for cleaning and resurface.

Multiple grooves or cavitation from the gasket all around on all water jacket

...I'll be taking it to the machine shop and see what happens.

They can look up maximum amounts to be removed, and will know if the head is servicable.

let's hope so! I really intend on using it to get my project started as I am just gathering new parts before the tear down.

OK so I got the head two days ago and they had to completly stripped the head to clean out the glass bead, fixed the broken phillip thread for the right side valve cover, add more helicoils, passed the pressure test, no warping, but I'm still a bit concern about the errosion around the water jacket after resufacing.

I would be concerned about the seal. I guess it comes down to the headgasket and how much it has to compensate for that. For example, Fel-pro sells a MLS for field repair when you don't have a machine shop,(not for 7M of course). If your gasket seals it, then ok. But I don't like how it looks.

Did you have the head hardness tested? It could be annealed which explains all the stripped threads. Those are stock valves BTW. Really doubt it has upgraded springs too.

Might be just me but as fragile as my 7m has been to me, I wouldn't use a head that looks like that. I always have fear of another bhg though lol
