All,
Here's my problem installed a set of H4 Hi/Low plug and play HIDS. When turned on to headlight position(low beam)nothing.

When moved forward(Hi beam) HIDS come on with HID hi beam on. Move it back to low beam HIDS are off. If I ground one of the terminals on the plug that plugs into the car harness the HIDS will come on but in HI beam even though the switch is pulled back to low beam setting.

If the hi/low connector to the HID bulbs is undone then the same happens only they light up in low beam.

I've reversed the ballasts and all that but no dice..

I'm almost sure its something in my car beacause I tried the HIDS out on my friends 70 something Chevy truck( He's got H4's too.) And it worked flawlessly.

The thing is when I put my Halogens back in my car they work exactly like they are supposed to.?? Can anybody help?

Ok well I did the fog rewire and then later on I removed them entirely as I put on an aftermarket front bumper! Is ther anything I need to do to the wiring harness that's left on the car? the fog switch is still in the dash and the plugs for the fogs are still on the front of the car.

Can you confirm if your high beam dash light works OK with the H4 lamps fitted & not with the HIDs & you don't have a "dimmer" relay in the engine bay fuse box?

It could be the same problem I had with my JDM car when I fitted HIDs to that - the headlight circuit works slightly differently to the UK models & I found I had to install a relay to make them work properly - I think USDM is the same.

One system grounds the common tab of the headlight bulbs & switches +12v to either high or low filaments through the "dimmer" relay.

The other system does away with the "dimmer" relay and sends +12v to the common side of the headlight bulbs then switches a grounding signal to either the high or low filiments directly through the column switch.

Another way to confirm if this is your problem is to quickly pop a H4 bulb in the spare holder while the HID kit is also plugged into the other side (i assume your HID kit plugs directly into 1 of the H4 plugs)

If your having the problem I think you are your HIDs will start to switch from high to low with the bukb plugged into the empty holder.

I haven't checked on this yet, but as soon as I get home I will! Just in case this is my problem can you PM me a diagram as to how to wire in the relay and what type it is that I may need? I know it has to be something along those lines because my halogen bulbs work fine and the HIDS tested good in my friends older truck.

There is a link to the page on my site HERE mate - it's all explained in detail there along with a diagram too.

Just check yours is the grounding type system without the DIMMER relay fitted inside the engine bay fuse box & that your panel HI beam indicator only works when bulbs are fitted & not without.

From your description tho - I'm fairly sure this is your problem as it's the same I had when swapping my HID kit from mu yUK car to my JDM limited.

Well that didn't work and there is a relay for the headlights in my fusebox under the hood labeled HEAD. I'm really confused as to where the problem may be.

Like I said my halogens work fine, and I tested the HIDS on a friends car and they worked perfectly on his H4 headlight plug. I was thinking maybe a wire grounded or something.... I'm STUMPED

What did you try? Adding a relay or adding a spare bulb into the opposite holder that the HID kit is plugged into?

The "HEAD" relay with no "dimmer" relay confirms you have a negative based system so, the relay mod should get things going, I have fitted this with complete success on 3 supras now - unless your particular HID kit does not like the negative switched headlight system for some reason.

Your friends car probably has a positive based system where the common pin of the lamps is ground so, the kit works fine for him.

In the past I have had to swap the wires round on the HID kits that go to the hi/low parts of headlight circuits because of the way they are wired internally. (inside the black plastic blob)

I had the halogen bulb plugged into the right side and the HIDS plugged into the left. I didn't put the relay in.

It's a Bosch Bi-xenon kit! I had an easysee kit from the HID group buy on here and it worked perfectly till the controller box went out...

Hey Supradupra if I ship my car to ya can you make it all Star Trekky inside? LOL... Going to try the relay tommorrow..

Lol - I'd rather leave the yUK for warmer places :)

Ritey, I have tried to include as much info as possible here, basically some HID kits will accept BOTH negative & positive switching systems where as others will ONLY accept positive based systems.

The diagrams/info following is to add a relay to convert your stock negative based system to a positive one that your HID kit will be able to run from.

The circuit also allows the stock "HI BEAM" warning light to continue to work properly.

You will need a standard "changeover" relay, some male and female crimps.

The circuit:
