I did a lot of looking on the net, and came up with this (reasonable cost) set up.
2.5" pipe from cat back to muffler with least amount of bends as possible. Magnaflow 14" long, 4" high, 9" wide aluminized steel. (check their website out). Center out, offset in. It was WAY TO LOUD !!! (I thought that with the packing in it, it would be quieter than those round ones I hear on the Hondas).
So... I had a 24" long, 4" diameter strait thru glasspack put in at the straightest run (under the middle of car). Now I have a 'free flow' system, with a really nice deep tone.
Also, before I put the center glasspack in, the low end torque suffered. A non-turbo needs some exhaust back pressure to give it lowend torque. I chose a 2.5" to open it up for those high-speed open roads out here in the Mojave Desert. I still have plenty of low end power.
To do over again, I would choose one of those 3 or 4 chambered ones with packing. The 'to loud' problem as I see it is that the muffler is at the end of the system.
