NA ECU Question - JDM or USDM?

i heard from one off my friends that if you swap for a jdm engine you also have to swap to a jdm ecu? i know the jdm engines don't have the egr system and all that. but is this true. if you put on the egr system then do you still need the jdm ecu or not? any help would be great.

I believe your gonna need the J.D.M. E.C.U.

If you put the EGR back on you do not need the JDM ECU. The USDM ECU is tuned for the EGR to be there, so if it is not, (jdm engine) you may get detonation.

if you use egr youll need a usdm ecu.if you dont go egr youll need jdm ecu.

and good luck finding a jdm ecu for a turbo 7mgte with a manual transmission... ive been looking all over and cant find one. i do have a 7mgte for a auto trans jdm ecu

good luck with that there is over 5 other active members also looking for the same thing. You have any friends in Japan? Other wise just put the EGR back on or pick up your self a stand alone fuel management system.

i got the egr already put in but i just wanted to go full jdm with the engine. i hate the egr system anyway it just doesn't appeal to me. but i'm going to keep looking for a jdm wiring harness and ecu hopefully i can find one soon. thanks again.

So reduced chance of part throttle detonation and increased gas mileage doesn't appeal to you...interesting :sarcasm:
