inevitably it is her decision, resentment will be the result of forcing her or severly pushing her to do something or not do something, life has a way of working out, let her live her life and support her, sometimes it works out best that way.

Good Luck

P.S. Why isn't she joining the corps aka the real military LOL

I don't think your getting this, sometimes letting someone choose for themselves can cost them their own lives. This is a very serious situation, the army is hurting for fresh meat right now for Iraq. I for one would do everything possible to stop her from joining. Patriotism or not, I wouldn't want my significant other going to the hell hole bush created to die for nothing. And yes her chances of going to Iraq are very high if she joins the army. Like everyone here has said, recruiters will fill your ears with bullshit and lies, but they have no control of where you will go or do.

Like I said Bmoss, there are other, greater ways your wife can serve this great nation, and going to die for someone else's freedom who doesn't want her there IS NOT one of them. The problems at home are way greater than the problems elsewhere.

the recruiter said they would give her a few different choices, of where she could be stationed depending on where her job was needed. then they could put it all in her contract. she told him she wouldnt sign unless her job was guaranteed in the contract.

she has been studying before she takes the asvab so she can get the job she wants.

its not about money, like i said its going to be about a $55k a yr paycut unless i can find something making what im making now where ever she gets stationed. if not ill just go back to school.

Yall need to watch Private Benjamin with Goldie Hawn.

I've been in the Army for seven years now. If you want a specific location you need her contract to say "guaranteed station of choice" on it, or you won't get it. There is a "wish list" of stations that everybody gets to make, however, if your contract does not specifically say "guaranteed station of choice" then there is no legal obligation for you to get any station on your list.

Her job selection will be based upon both her asvab score, (specifically the "GT" score) and the needs of the army at the time of her enlistment. If she scores above 110 on the GT then she can do any job in the army, and should be able to get any job she wants. If something she wants is not available, then she should walk out. They will call her back, I promise.

Linguists, communications specialists, and other jobs with specialized skills give much higher bonuses than other jobs. In general, the longer the AIT is, the more of a bonus you will receive.

Keep in mind that all enlistments are for 8 years, no matter what you sign up for. For example, I originally signed up for 4 years, which means I served 4 years active, and 4 years inactive. During your inactive years you can still be deployed, you just don't actually work for the army full time.

bmoss

read that one 1000X times.

I forgot about that one.

Even if your contract says 4 years. It is eight years.

4 on 4 off. 6 on 2 off.

Yep, and in a time of war (LIKE RIGHT NOW), you're ass is going for the 8 years...

National Guard, Air National Guard, Coast Guard, ect are GREAT alternatives if you're looking for them...

I would suggest that she talk to a different Air Force recruiter then. The AF has a guaranteed job program where they will sign a contract. If you dont get that job you can get out - no strings attached. You will get the job.

Sometimes the position that you may want isnt open, but you can either pick a different career field that you qualify for or you can wait for the position to open up.
