to even start the car i have to put it in neutral and have to feather the gas to get it started. when stopping i have to switch back into neutral and use both feet to stop and keep it running. possibly alternator or battery? any insight would be great thanks.

Sounds like it could be a dirty or faulty IAC motor. You could try cleaning it before sourcing another one.
Check for codes, if you slowly let off the gas does it try to idle at allot just completely die?The throttle plate is for the most part completely closed and idle airflow is almost entirely dependent on the ISC valve.
