one bolt missing to mount turbo to manifold...

fixed it all today and exhuast smells alot less rich.

and one of the supports for the turbo wasnt even bolted up.

anyother halfass stories?

I have a video of the car idling.. so ill post it when its done uploading.

Yeah, a leak there would've shifted the O2 sensor lean resulting in the loop being shifted rich.

I often find many of those nuts loose. Comes from people reusing them. At least add CRES locking hardware if you do. Better is to buy new.

I'd still be checking the O2 sensor for correct fuel control if I were you....

Nomad: What you want to see is the O2 sensor cross counting at least 8 times in 10 seconds (with the engine at 2500 rpm) *and* an average of 450 mv. If it's doing that the fuel control loop is active and not shifted. You can also use Vf. In that case cross counting is the same but you'll be looking for a 2.5 volt average.

I don't know how much rebuilding you have done, but the factory kits come with everything needed, such as those items. And all the things you "don't need".:nono:

I find if the barces are missing from the turbo (like mine where) the loosen up very fast (around a month). I put the braces on and they don't back out nearly as easily (and yes the nuts are new, and I'm not gonna fight with those studs...)

Nice to hear from you Nick. Was wondering why you haven't been around.

I still do a fair amount of car work but not so much on Supras these days. I used to be into helping owners out a lot more but got tired of how bad the cars were. Generally speaking the average Supra out there is a neglected POS. These days I limit myself to EFI and emissions problems only because I enjoy that kind of work and have the diagnostic gear to make it easy. As for hardware I always use new, especially if it's self locking hardware and anything on the exhaust side. I also smoke test the system twice a year. Both are habits carried over from doing aviation maintenance where an exhaust leak is likely to kill you in one of several ways.

Poodles: Excellent point.
