I'm looking to get a little more power, torque, and a higher top speed for my 1987 NA. Any1 have suggestions? So far I have OBX racing headers and spark plugs, hks cold air intake. What would give me some inexpesive power and torque?

Thanks Everyone!

read the stickies.......

But there really isnt much you can do...lightweight fly wheel and drive shaft...lighten the car....but as far as more power there nothing that will change alot other then expensive machine work and then you'll be stuck burning race gas and say bye bye to passing emissions....for the money you'll have to spend just to get 50extra hp you will have been able to go turbo and get much more power per dollar.

if i were you id honestly go turbo. but only other thing you can really do besides the expensive machine work is to lighten it like mentioned before...maybe go a little bigger exhaust but not much bigger.

Read the sticky in this section. Its the BEST info you;ll find in regard to your question. Ma70_Ent (sp?) has spent some time compiling a great resource, so use it!!! :)

My ignorant advice:

Finish off the exhaust and sit back and enjoy the car for what it is. If you want a screaming fast car, go turbo.

Finish off the rest of the exhaust. Get a decent 2.5 inch catback. After that, it's up to you if you want to go further. I hate to say this, but this information is in the stickies...

Cometic MHG, APR studs, NA->t would be the cheapest route. (if your bearings and rings are still good)

If not, just buy a bare 7mGTE block and head and start building.

I'm thinking about holding out until I can afford a 1jz, but I want to get my top speed up before the summer starts.

If you're not tracking the car on a high speed track, you're retarded(read: danger to society and yourself) for doing more than the stock ~125mph on public roads... :nono:

Its for the track. Really, I want to be able to get better acceleration. There's a track down by Seattle with some reaaaaally nice long stretches. I'm not going to be doing anything stupid on public roads.

Get the rear diff. from a turbo car. Some have 3.90's, some have 3.73(?)'s. Iirc, all are of them for the turbo cars are limited slip. That, and you could swap to an r154. There's a pretty good post in Defiant7M's build thread here in the n/a section about changing the overdrive gear, which would give you a longer top end; it would lack power there, though.

That build would be a good read for you as well, and the n/a upgrade Faq.

Awesome!!! I wish I had a road course nearby. There are a few in Colorado being built, but none for now.

I'm jealous.

No. He needs to stay with the 4.30 but if it doesn't have an LSD then he needs to swap for one that does. Don't change the short gearing on the NA, with the power output the GE is making you need that high gearing.
