So currently im using pre 89 square brackets with the pre 89 square rubber mounts in a 89 chassis. I can obviously feel the engine is not set 100% and would like to change them out before i hurt the drive train or exhaust.. My question is, to use mk4 motor mounts, do i need to get 89+ brackets? Or mk4 brackets? Or will the mounts simply bolt onto the pre89 brackets? Thank you.

I'm not totally sure that you can use MKIV mounts with your setup at all actually. The reason I am able to use them is because I'm 2JZ. They may be too tall for your application.

I am successfully using mk4 mounts in my 91 with 89+ brackets. Not sure if anything else would work. Noteworthy, the engine becomes much more stable in the bay, but it a bi*** to install.

Give me a little time and I'll get you the part number I used.

Edit: The part I'm using is p/n 12360-46111. List price at our dealer is $75 each.

Iirc it can only be done in 89+ brackets and sub frames. You also have to grind off one of the tabs.

^This. The tab isn't a big deal, just cho it off with a hacksaw and never break a round mount again.

The motor is way way more stable and "seated" in the engine bay for sure.

I also agree that you would very likely need a 89+ front subframe and 89+ brackets. The pre-89 in my memory are much shorter.

The tab is just a small nipple of aluminium that is easily taken care of with a file or alternately drill a matching hole in the bracket and make use of them without removing the nipple.

Ok looks like ill get the brackets and inserts. The tab is on the subframe or mount? I know the pre 89s have a little tab on the subframe under the mount.Im hoping to just raise the engine up in a bay a few inches and swap them out.

Do you have a 89+ subframe or the early style sub frame. Pretty sure they dont work with the early subframe but i can confirm.

Ok so I have a febuary of 89 car, the motor was using round mounts, so I bought the 98 TT mounts both for $110 shipped from elmhurst toyota on suprafrums, these matched with the 89+ motor brakcets fit perfectly.
