MAP ECU with stock injectors?

I am looking at getting a MAP ECU from a friend for a good price. It has the map for a 7M with 550cc injectors. I am only running stock 440s with a stock turbo with a 3"DDP and exhaust the head also has a mild port/polish job. If I bought this, wired it up and went ahead and removed the stock MAF sensor and did no tuning on it, Could I run the car using the MAP/speed density without tuning? Would it allow me to go all the way through my normal powerband without tuning? I realize to get the most of it I need to have it tuned, it just might be a few days after the install when I get it tuned.

The reason I am wondering is, I have about an hour drive from where I would be to the place I will get it tuned, down the interstate. I don't want to take it there to get it installed because I am fully capable of doing that myself and do not want to pay for the install if I can do it myself and know that it is done right. I would rather just drive there with it installed and let the entire time be spent tuning the car instead of installing something.

It would run, but not as well as it could.
I would try to learn the software a bit before i installed it, and then get a map and tune it a bit.
Its really not that complicated.
Its just like an safc but with more tuning points.
Just don't go extreme and start pulling out -50% fuel etc.
I would set it all to zero or a little bit above zero to be safe.

By not as well as it could, do you mean that it would be a danger to the motor, running too lean, ect or not as much power as it could make? I am trying to find as much as I can about the system and so far it is a lot to take in.

I know that it can be set to "learn mode" where it reads the stock ECU's operating perameters and determines what it is operating on normally. I was wondering if it will compensate for the smaller injectors in this mode.

Is there a setting that allows it to be tuned for injectors without having to get into each rpm/boost/throttleposition setting? Can I just go to a section on the tuning program and type in 440cc in place of 550cc? I'm sorry, I don't know much about the tuning program used.

I'm downloading the software on my new laptop and I will post screenshots on where to change the injector sizing. The best bet after that is to play with the fuel maps and get it to your desired AFR.

Edit:
I just downloaded it, and I cannot find an area to change the injector sizing. You are better off adding(I think it would be adding, might be wrong) 25% fuel in the 0-1200 rpm range, down to 0 psi. Then play with the rest as you go. Remember that this is only a base map and should only be used for start up. You should not drive around on it, as it is non specific to your mods and what not.

Thanks. I appreciate it.

Is there a setting that will let me get it to the nearest tune shop? I don't have a wideband and I am terrified about blowing something up by doing something wrong.

If you add 25% fuel all the way up to 3000, it should let you get there, as long as you don't beat on the car. Hell, if I didn't have a wideband, I would rent a Uhaul and trailer and drive it there on the trailer.

The 25% should bring it to 440cc range, as you would have to pull 25% fuel in the begining to get it to the stock start up area.

i would set everything back to zero and try to stay out of boost.
Also, you could even add some fuel just to be sure.

Another option is to wire up wires like power ground, tps and the injector wires, and leave the afm wires connected (i.e. don't connect them to the map ecu).
Drive down there, then when you arrive connect the afm wires and pull out the afm quickly. Just leave your glove box out to save you time.
At least this way you don't risk messing up anything on the drive down.

I was thinking the same thing. Have all of the hard stuff hooked up, save the MAF and others to be hooked up on arrival, even in the parking lot. I just don't want to be pulling out the dash to hook things up in the parking lot or worse, pay someone else for something I am perfectly capable of doing myself.

you don't have to pull the dash.
like i said, leave the glove box out because the ecu and the wiring is right around that area.
Then jsut drive down there.
That would be your best bet.
