I have read the postings and web sites until my eyes bled now I need some clarification please. I am trying for modest HP i.e. high 300 to low 400 that is tractable as a weekend driver yet strong enough to produce good times at the track.
Currently my car as it runs now has 3" pipe from turbo to tail pipe w/Magnaflow muffler, aluminum flywheel ACT stage 3 clutch, Bosh BOV, MBCV, COMETIC HG, bored 30 over and a boost gauge and I am running a moderate 8 to 10lbs boost.
On the work bench I have the Lexus AFM, RC 550 injectors, AFPR, 57 trim CT26 and Walbro fuel pump.
My next purchase will be a fuel control system.
If I understand correctly my options are:
1. stand alone system which eliminates the ecu? Mainly intended for high output applications and a high level of tuning competency
2. Maft Pro a "piggy back" system which can be used with the above described set up but requires a GM MAF instead of the Lexus AFM, allows wide range of tuning options and requires mid to high level of tuning experience and is rated for higher HP.
3. Apexi SAFC piggybacks to the factory ecu, has basic adjustment parameters, works well with Lexus AFM and is fairly straight forward to tune and would allow the desired HP
Am I correct that
A. The SAFC and Maft only come into play at WOT and that the ECU controls everything prior to going into open loop?
B. Each system requires it's own O2 sensor
C. All tuning should be done on a dyno but can be done via street driving
D. If adjusted correctly, the emissions out-put can still be within EPA specs
If there is a thread that you could refer me to that I might have missed let me know.
I am open to suggestions and advise in my build
