Im in the process of making a new FFI for my supra and im planning on using a Lexus V8 throttle body...ive heard a remour that the 1uz and the 7m share similar electronics...i have both the 7m and 1uz tps's, but no wiring for the 1uz.
does anybody know what part to use where and what wiring to change?

ive done a quick search that didnt triumph with anything....point me with a link if theres one around :icon_bigg

also just a quick question on powersterring coolers....are they really nessary? i mean does it heat up so much i need to run a external cooler? removing factory one for larger intercooler etc

Thanks for all help
Nick

Certain years use the same TPS but no ones has stepped up with a part # I just removed the 1UZ butterfly for the
1UZ TPS and turned it 180 deg. and tacked into place so the Stock 7m TPS will bolt right on. If you can find the
1UZ TPS harness its a direct swap its in another thread I did not go this route but Im told the wiring is the same.

As for the power steering cooler I also removed the stock cooler and ran a length of 1/4 Stainless tubing and looped from the drivers side to the passenger side where the resevior is located so I did not use the stock tubing that runs under the engine I only did this since mine was cracked.

i haven't found much in the way of wiring for it either

what i've got a friend doing is modifying the 1uz tb to physically fit a 7m tps and apparently the butterfly throw is incorrect for a 7m
(whatever that means LOL)

but when i get it back i'll post pics and hopefully a detailed description of everything that was done :)

Remove the TPS and under it is the butterfly that turns the TPS when the throttle moves the problem is its out 180 deg. so I cut the tabs off the 1UZ butterfly and put a spare 7m butterfly and tack welded it on top I would have liked to mod the 1uz butterfly but it has a tab that is holding a spring so it must remain in the original place. just make sure you weld it in the proper location to allow for TPS adjustment hope this helps .

as long as its a pre 98 (non VVTI) lexus unit, the electronically they function the same. as for the wiring, I cant tell you off hand if its directly swapable or if you have to wire it differently, but I can tell you that its easy to figure out with an OHM meter. This write up will be a little long though to explain it.

Here it goes, there are 4pins obviously.
VC = (5volt supply)
VTA = (sensor out)
IDL = (idle switch)
E2 = (sensor ground)
What they are (i.e. 5v, sensor out, ect...) is not really important for this.
Its pretty simple and just requiers a series of resistance checks and write down your results.

Have the sensor on the TB and OHM meter in front of you. try different pins until you find the ones that have a high resistance value that does not change when the throttle shaft is rotated.
These two pins will be the VC and E2 pins. Now to determine which is which.
While connected to one of them (pins from first test) try the other two pins that are unknown at this time and see which one has continuity when the the throttle is closed and no continuity when its opened. Once found, this pin is the IDL pin and the last pin that has not been accounted for is the VTA, and now you can tell which is the VC and E2 from the first test by seeing which has the lowest resistance to the IDL pin found in test two when the throttle is closed. Which ever has the lowest resistance to the IDL pin is the E2 pin.

Now all pins are accounted for in the lexus TPS, so consulting the TSRM will allow you to determine which wire goes where.

thats awesome! thanks very much! :D ill have a look a play with a muiti meter.

ill have a look on the supra tsrm for the 7m wiring, otherwise i could just do the same as above on the lexus tb? in theory its the same.

Thanks heaps for your help
