Knock noise

So a while ago before i starting trying to pull this engine I heard what sounded like rod knock. I was doubting it was rod knock because i didn't hear it when i bought the car from the guy and it hadn't run since then so i figured it couldn't develop like that. Anyway i pulled spark to every cylinder and found that it hadn't stopped ever. Someone suggested maybe I had rod knock on more than 1 cylinder. I considered it but still thought it unlikely. Anyway...I noticed that the tensioner pulley or whatever the hell it's called has some slop in it and wiggles around. If i try to recreate the sound by hand I can't nearly get it as loud as when the engine is running but it does make a kind of knocking sound. Does anyone think it's possible that when the engine is actually running this can be making the noise or has anyone had something similar to this happen to them?

It was the drive belt idler pulley. Someone mentioned the crank pulley bolt a while ago. I tried to tighten it and after putting some serious torque on it, it did get a little tighter, but the noise didn't go away at all. The engine is coming out and apart anyway. I'll know soon enough if it was actually rod knock but if I find out that it's not I wanna know what the actual culprit was. And i didn't notice that it had slop until I took a majority of the stuff off the engine.
