A kidnapping attempt in Maitland, Fla., was foiled when the alleged culprit's car stalled after he pulled a woman inside his vehicle and tried to flee the scene, police told Local 6 News.
Investigators said Edwin Arvelo pulled his Toyota car next to a 41-year-old woman at a parking garage at Maitland Colonnades located at 2301 Lucien Way in Maitland early Wednesday.
Arvelo then allegedly grabbed her and trapped her in his car, police said.
"She fought back and ironically enough, his car did not work when he tried to get away with her still inside," Local 6 reporter Vanessa Medina said.
Arvelo got out of the vehicle and the woman then locked him out of the vehicle, the report said.
"When he stopped out of the car, she locked the doors, put up the windows and started blowing the horn and he ran," Maitland police officer Alison Diller said.
Altamonte Springs police arrested Arvelo a short time later.
Arvelo was arrested twice last year for indecent exposure and soliciting a prostitute.
The woman was not seriously injured.
