make sure to triangulate your chassis!! I'd have made the one you pictures considerably larger. box steel likes to bend and never go straight again.

but 14hp.. damn.. i remember my 11hp kart. thats gunna be fun!

speed, that 6" brace is the biggest i can get in behind the transaxle. im gonna put another one on the other side, and a sh*tload of crossbracing between the transaxle, engine and seat :) more to come tomorrow.

thanks a bunch for the tip!

yea, don't just cross brace it, but triangulate each cross brace too. yea, it'll be some more work and add a little weight, but it'll make it a LOT more resistant to twisting. What are you going to use for your axle & drive system? Brakes?

axle/drive is a pain in the ass because the engine is vert output. im going to try and use the transaxle off of the mower. brakes? ive got a 3" diameter disc off the side of the trans, does that count? ill have to get pictures of it tomorrow, its a joke.

Man I've been wanting to build something like this for a long time! We used to have a Sears Roto-tiller that had a 23hp engine, but my parents junked it before I got my hands on it. Been looking for a cheap/free one ever since.
I might have to come down a check it out when you finish!!

are you building this thing to be seriously quick & fun,or just to dick around in? Either way, i'd definitely spend some money on proper kart brakes and a diff. Everything you need can be found on ebay for pretty cheap. and remember, low center of gravity!

a question:

would i be able to use a clutch rated for around 10 hp on this 14 hp engine? seems simple but i wonder if they allowed for an extra hp or two in engineering the clutch and if the engine isnt putting out near that much. whats everyone think?

As long as the clutch fits......your fine in clutch department. Looks good so far!
