Interior: Box Thing on Center Console Door Clip

so that square holder thing right behind the shifter and the tems control..the thing that makes it open and click closed is broken. anyone have a part number or anything? the toyota woman i was on the phone with couldn't find it with my description. i see there are multiple parts, but i'm not sure what broke because i dont understand this contraption.
any help?

It's the coin tray in my car, I have a 90 turbo auto though so may be different for you. Mine broke and stayed open all the time, I didn't feel like fixing it and its useless anyways so I glued it shut.

yeah mines open all the time and it feckin' irritates me. and i would use it. so i wanna fix it.

I fixed mine I actually use it to hold change and shit. Sometimes when I take a corner too fast, though, it would pop open. That was annoying as hell!

Toyota doesn't break it down further than the complete box.

They can be fixed, if you are willing to study the thing and futz with it.

I took mine out (after fixing it) and mounted a swivel stand for my Ipod.

hey suprabad, can you post a picture of your ipod mount? i've always been trying to figure out a concrete docking point for my ipod but have yet to find one. does it get in the way of you shifting?

Looks like you need to glue the blue piece back together about where the spring rests on it...

BTW you pre90 guys should be happy your's are so deep.

I'm in the process of creating to molds in the holder, as a docking station for my treo phone and my ipod, having the car charger connected to the back of the cig lighter so it should look nice. Not sure if anyone has actually done this.

IF you can't fix it, you can just pull the rod out of the hing and remove the spring that keep it open if you want it to just stay down...

noredline: good idea, i had a similar idea, i was gonna use fiberglass to make an ipod dock with power and line in on it.
and i was also thinking of fiberglassin' a cupholder there.
i've sort of scratched the ipod idea cus i've noticed that its in my way when shifting.
Poodles: nah, im gonna get pissed tryin to stick my finger nail in there to open it up again.

if i fail in fixing this thing, i'm gonna try to make that cupholder out of the empty space.

IIRC you can push behind the hinge and it will open.
