Intake Problems!!! HELP!!!!!!

Ok i bought a 1986.5 Mk3 and the airflow meter was bad so i changed it, it had a cold air intake on it so i went to a jnuk yard and got a all stock one, i like keeping it real lol. so when i took of the old one thier is a red wire from the body of the car bolted to the airlflow so i was like watever took it of now that i put the stock one on i cant conect the wire so i just put it together and tried to start her up it failed a warning light came on its on the dash to the far left it looks like an intake filter, then the check engine light is on normal when a car dont start. so wat you guys think i need help!!!!:aigo::aigo::aigo::aigo::aigo:

I'm slightly confused by what you're saying. The light that is on to the far left of the dash is the radiator light. You probably need to add a little coolant to your system. As for the car not starting, can you be more specific about the red wire? Are you positive you connected everything correctly? The AFM has a connector that plugs into the side of it or the car wont run. I can't think of any redwire that I know of.

Go into detail a little more. Have you check for any codes?

Perhaps the last owner damaged a ground wire on the VAF and added another using the red wire? Pics might assist us as well. Was the red wire terminated on the VAF housing, stuck into the air pipe? We need more details.
