installing different vpc chip

Does it matter which way it goes in? I swapped out from the 440 to the 550 and just want to make sure I have it put in correctly

Well, I don't know what type of package they use on their IC's but, it's going to matter. Depengind on which package the IC is there will be a "key" either at one end or on one corner of the chip, it's usually an indention or clipped corner in the IC's case. Make sure the key on the new chip is in the same place as the key on the old one.

yea there should be a "key" on the corner of the chip that shows u which way it goes.

Here is a pic. The only mark I see is an indentation in the middle of the chip and I matched it up with the indentation on the board.

yea thats it. was thinking of other chips, but yea thats the key that sould match with the one on the board.

Match the little notch on the end of the chip with the one in the socket.
