I screwed up.... please help

I stripped a damn head bolt....... the second one from the front on the intake side..... The rest of the bolts came out without a problem. I am so pissed at myself right now :rant: Any ideas on how to take it out???

About your only option if its completely stripped.

Also, make sure if you are drilling:


-Drill slow
-Use lots of oil on the drill bit
-Wear safety glasses
-Use a carbide or other hard material drill (HS steel just won't do the job)

Where the hell do you get a sock-it-out tool?? i just did some searching and some guy got it loose with one of those...hmmmmmm Yeah, I am pretty sure i will kill my head if I drill. :icon_conf

before you do any drilling.
First thing you do is clean the head with some carb cleaner or such. get all the goo and oil crap from the bolt head. Then take the hex socket and tap it in with the hammer all the way. make sure it goes in all the way and not just stops somewhere ( this is where the cleaning is important. )
Try opening the bolt after its all the way in.

It happened to me once, and after struggling and panicking, I cleaned the bolt head and eventhough the top are was stripped, when I knocked the socket in all the way ...it opened up.

another (*not suggested unless needed*) option would be to use some JB Weld, toss the hex head in there, hammer it in a bit with some JB weld around it, and let it sit overnight

That is the next best option to avoid drilling.

A last option would be to put int the hex key and weld it on there if you have access to one. You'll be getting a new head bolt anyway. Just make sure to put something around the bolt because of the sparks

you beat me to it. ya just tack weld the key on to the bolt

see if you can find something called "strip out", our local hardware store sells it and its just a gritty paste in a tube works like a charm, its saved my ass a few times from stripped bolts (just put some in the head of the bolt or around the socket/hex key and it should lock it up enough to let you turn.

ive also heard that valve lapping compound works the same way.

I would let a professional do any drilling and extracting if it comes to that, they have the quality tools and skill today not to say you don't but if you can't get it out your fucked.

It seems that when I initially started messing with it the hex bit I was using was too damn short to get all the way to the bottom of that damn stock bolt. Anyhow, as long as the story has a happy ending I guess. I am sure this won't be the last thing I screw up as I am building thing :biglaugh:

Ususally that is the case as I found out when I had the problem. I was able to knock it down and into place.
