I need some oldies.

I wanna download some music... oldies mainly but I cant really think of some.
And when I hear oldies on the radio they never say the artist or title... well, they do sometimes, like 10% of the time.

Sooooo, any suggestions???
if possible not only beatles, or madonna or something.

What's your definition of oldies? Afterall some people consider the 80's oldies. If you mean the 50's kind of oldies go after some Chuck Berry work like Johnny be Good. For the 60's do some CCR, Hendrix, Stones, Dylan, Beatles, etc. For the 70's I'm a big Springsteen fan, you can do Claptons Layla, Queen stuff, and In gadda da vida j/k . For the 80s do some U2 or find one of those greatest one hit wonders CD and start downloading. HTH

I recently installed Winamp and am using a StreamRipper plug in....

With this, I open Shoutcast radio and tune into any station shown....they have everything! Anyways, StreamRipper copies the track, with all of the header info (artist/title) and creates separate folders for each station, with all of the MP3s played (as separate files).

We've been streaming/saving oldies for the GF's parents (still on dial-up).... Basically we tune into an oldies station (60's, 70's, and 80's) and let it run all night. In the morning we have ALOT of music and only used up about 300MB (depending on bit rate).

We sort thru and delete what we don't want, write the rest to CD and give to them on occassions (holidays, etc)..... they love it.

We usually stream techno/trance and have "old-school" mixes, rock, 80's alternative, etc, etc. Name your genre, it's there. Let us know how U do....

i am on dial up... which sucks ass but it is not too bad for downloading songs...
i also can't let it run thru the night cos it would kill the telephone bill (i'm billed per minute which sucks even more)... so the whole stream ripper thing isnt really an option

but its a good idea and i will keep that in mind

You know what you could do? Bribe your boyfriend or someone with a fast/unlimited connection to download music and burn the files to CDs or DVDs without conversion for you. It would be much cheaper, and if you keep MP3s as data instead of converting them for old-school CD player use, you can cram a BUNCH of songs on even a regular 700MB CD.
Example: In my "Albums" folder, I have copied all of my purchased CDs to MP3 format at 192kbps. At that bit rate, which seems higher than most care to rip at [takes up more space; most people seem to rip at 128k], I can fit a little less than 1,000 songs on a 4.7 gigabyte DVD; almost twice that if I burn dual-layer. This also depends on length of the songs, but you get my point.
