Hello,
as it says im going through a huge moral debate. I dont know what way to go. I have a lot done that is 7m specific, but im going for a Reliable
500ish rwhp, and it would be cheeper for me to have someone do a swap, rather than pay to have it rebuilt.... (labor only). How hard is 500rwhp on a
1jz, and how hard is it to make a 7m Reliable at 500rwhp. The items I would lose that are 7m specific are:

K & N filter
Greddy Type-S bov
Cooleze Turbo Inlet Pipe
HKS 3000 pipe and Hard Pipe kit
ARC Intercooler
RC 550 injectors and clips
LIPP Lexus AFM
BIC 3” downpie with turbo elbow
BIC 3” testpipe

Unless I could get a single manidold to work with a ct- downpipe. I know I could use the 550s with a new rail and coilpacks, but how hard is it to do? Any input on what I should do..... PLEASE HELP

i would say to get a 500rwhp reliable 7m hhhhmmmmmm since i am aiming for that power range and i have been doing some price "shopping"

Gasket Kit $200
MHG $250-300
Piston Rings $70
Oil Pump $150
Rod Bearings- $60
Main Bearings $60
Arp head bolts $100
Valves 3 angle w new stems $300
Have block resurfaced $60
Head Resurfaced $60
Forged pistons and rods $1200
1000(+/-) for labor
-----------------
I left off the injectors b/c you have 550's but you might need to get some 680's also i left off the turbo b/c you would need basically the same type of turbo for both engines i would say $1300+. But a built 7m is less than the price of a stock 1jz swap ...... if u are not going to be working on the car yourself you might want to stick with a 7m PERIOD

are u doing all the work yourself or are you just going to buy ever single piece and bring it tp a shop to rebuilt/ tune it...

if u can do everything yourself I'd prolly go 1J
if not then i'd go 7m, but i dunno. your switching to a 3.0L 7m to a 2.5L 1J

if you have money to spend like a good 6-7 grand then i'd go 1J.
if u have 3-4 grand then 7m

If you have like 8000+ go to 2jz

your decision really depends on your wallet...
all 3 engine are good for 500+ ezily and can be reliable if treated right each one has it flaws...

lol classic response the 1jz does makes tq no doubt just not like the 7m ..... 7m's often make more tq than hp. How does the power delivery feel with a high powered 1jz? All i ever hear is how the stock power level is sooo smooth like an NA almost ....

btw, you can "easily" go 2jz with a full standalone for 6-7k. But you would have to do all the labor yourself. 1jz can be done for 3-4k with all your own work. (these are with No mods.. just what it takes to put it in and get it running/driving)

That's only if he does all the labor himself on the swap. If you have someone else do it, you're looking at 10,000+. SupraNick spent $10,000 just to get his 2JZ started. I spent about $7000 on my 1JZ swap. Like we say, it's all a matter of how much money you're willing to spend. If you have $10k or $15k laying around, go 2JZ. If you have about $8k, go 1JZ or build up a 7M from scratch. If you have less than $8k, build up your 7M. Preferably rebuild the block, install all new motor internals (pistons, rods, that kind of thing), and make sure to install a MHG. For $5000 you can have a respectable, rebuilt, 7M. But like we say, it's all a matter of how much money you are willing to invest at one time, and whether or not you will do the work yourself or simply pay someone else to do it all. That's the best advice I can give you.

And to answer BountyKilla and Silver Sniper's question about the power of the 1JZ, it's awesome. The power curve is completely different. The turbos kick in very quickly and continue to pull all the way through 7500 RPM. The motor is very strong, and packs one hell of a kick. Here's an article that I found on the 1JZ to help you guys more.

I plan on doing the same in the distant future when my 7m powered supra is complete. I want my 400-500 HP 7m, and an identical looking 1J powered supra with BPU's ;).

i payed close to 10k though for ALOT more than just plain ol stock 2j! ;) but for somene else to do it for a straight 2j swap, make sure u have at least $8k to spend. $10k for last minute fixes or add ons! ;) U'll spend $1k for a good clutch and another $1k for IC and custom piping alone. it adds up QUIK! but the pay off is well worth it when ur spanking other MKIV's with the same motor! :)

Nick's right, you need a couple extra grand for those little extra things you will need. Me, I bought a new clutch kit, shifter bushings (my clip didn't come with them), front and rear main oil seals, PCV valve/grommet/hose, new hoses and belts, spark plugs, air filter, exhaust system, couple extra oil changes because the clips often sit in a junk yard in Japan for a long time, and I'm about to buy a new radiator because I don't trust the one my clip came with and Driftmotions oil pressure gauge sender adaptor because my oil pressure gauge is pegged right now, and a boost gauge because a stock 1J runs about 11 PSI. There's always going to be little extra stuff. Some is just preventative maintenance because you have such easy access while the motor and tranny are out of the car.
