I know this might sound weird, but question about shift boot!

My car was automatic and today I received a shift boot I bought off eBay. Finally, coz it's looking so ugly now with the manual shifter and no boot. Can't wait to install it.

My question is... how is the lower (wider) part of the boot attached or held to the car? Do I need to glue it? Or is it pressed between something?

Just curious.

the factory 5 speeds come with a square metal frame that the boot basically goes around and is held on by it.. ur gonna have to either find one of thsoe, or rig it up ur own way i geuss.

s383mmber1: Wow, that's generous of you, maybe too much! =)

Thanks everyone. Since my car was automatic and I never cared for this issue, I'll try to solve it in any way I can.... even if that means STITCHING it! =P

He's talking about the rubber boots, not the leather one AFAIK. It's held in by a metal square and 4 bolts.

the boot itself should be wider up top and theres a bracket that holds it to the center console. 2 screws up top and 2 clips on the smaller end. Im not family with AT so not sure how much of a difference there is.

From what I gather, if you are talking about the leather shift boot, you need the metal ring people are mentioning, that came in Manual cars. The black 'trim' piece for you console has the four screw holes(whatever) to attach said ring to it and from what I understand the boot is sandwiched in between the ring and the black piece.

Im converting from an auto as well, however I grabbed the black piece from the manual parts car, so I have the ring already.

Hopefully that made even a tiny bit of sense.
