How does the Brake fluid sensor work?

I plan on swapping my MC to a 4runner one, but the resevoirs are different. Im curious how the sensor in the supra actually senses if the fluid level is low. Inspecting the unit, the stem(sensor) looks like a sealed unit. There is a round cushion that slides up and down the stem. Can any of you tech guys help me out?

Works the same way as does the coolant tank sensor. The float contains a magnet and the stem contains a reed switch:
