honing

my stock pistons have a piston to wall clearnace of somewhere between .0025" to .003" (.003" is too tight).just wondering how much more clearance i should expect with honing for like 10 secs?just dont know if its a matter of .01" or .001"...

any opinions?

I don't think it will be much at all if you're just honing. All that's going to do is smooth everything up and maybe get rid of some very tiny scratches, but I doubt it's going to remove much of your cylinder walls if you do it for ten seconds. You may be using something other than what my machinist used to do Vondas block though. I guess you'll have to do and recheck it. Good luck.

yes i guess it wont hurt if i just go ahead and hone it just to check it...the reason im nervous about this is because my teacher always used to bitch and moan to us that you shouldnt hone for long at all because you could open it up to much and then piston slap :icon_sad: but this sunday i shall find out :evil2:

Depends on the grit of the honing device and what type and how much bigger it is then your bore.

If its a course grit and is significantly larger then your bore it will take more off then a fine grit slightly larger apparatus.

Do a little and remeasure. shouldnt make THAT big of a difference.
