Help with my codes please?

well i was driving to Helen, Ga the other day and my check engine light comes on like 20 miles from home. so i pulled over and pulled my trusty paper clip out and ran them real quick. came up code 24 and 42 so i called a buddy he said code 24 was air intake temp. Where is the intake sensor? thats not the AFM is it? im sorry if i seem like an idiot lol but im just confused, ive searched but none of the code 24 posts really explain anything. And the speed sensor signal? are these important to fix? the car runs and it is my daily driver... It seems to have a miss at idle now idk if they are related or not... anyone? Thanks guys. Tryin to get my car ready for the meet coming up. ive taken off for work and damn it it never fails, just start throwin codes. lol ohhh and will they get worse and leave me stranded? let me know guys. please, n thanks.

The first thing to do is clear out the codes in the ECU to see if they come right back (found under the "EFI" section of the TSRM). If they do, then you need to start sourcing out the problem. A code 42 usually happens if the speedo cable acts up or disintegrates like mine did when I swapped out the cable underneath the car, which is a common failpoint.

Is your needle bouncing around and making noises in the speedo? If the speedo cable goes out completely the miles will be off in your odometer as they go hand-in-hand (the miles will stop ticking off completely), as well as the speedo not reading the correct speed. A GPS system inside your car will help gauge the difference between actual speed and needle reading, but remember there is a lag on the GPS due to timing with the satellite (usually a few seconds, give-or-take).

Cmon guys i know that much. i have cleared my codes. ive had this car almost 7 months now and have done most of my own work, Deigo has helped me a bit.. ive read alot here about them. i still get both codes. im asking what do i need to replace and where are the sensors. and will it get worse? i get horrible gas mileage now.

It is integrated into the meter, it is a part of it.

Look at your EWD to be sure. Power in the airflow meter is shared, and the signal is seperate. If you don't have 31, but have 34, then it can not be the power supply. Your default is warm, and that will not make you run rich. It has to be the thermistor or the wiring. The signal wire is labeled THA in the wiring diagram. That is thermal air if you didn't know.

Did you crawl under the car and see if the sensor is plugged in, and the wiring is not damaged? Refering to the speed sensor.

sorry. my speedometer never woked since ive had this car. nor my odometer. but it never threw any codes but a knock sensor code which deigo(supraguy@aol) rewired for me and since then i had no codes up untill the other day

no but i will. i did happen to drive threw some sticks in my yard one could have flew up and damaged something. Where is the speed sensor?

Hey man- Not sure, but i think the's referring to the ABS sensor on the tranny??
We need to get your speedo fixed. As for the IAT sensor- it's the plastic probe that sticks down into the airflow, inside your AFM.
Don't use any spray cleaner in there- it permanently kilss the electronics of the AFM.

But i never had 42 before monday. speedo NEVER worked. i check my codes weekly lol dam car breaks every other week on me. but ive almost got every gasket on it replaced. finally

What Nick said (except for the part about shared power). And since neither 24 or 42 effect fuel economy in a measurable way you have other problems. Also, failure of any part in the ABS system will not set TCCS codes...

I just looked at the cygnusx site, and the thermistor is a two wire on its own. It is not on the VC (voltage constant 5 Volt refrence).

Actually you were right in a technical sense Nick. THA is pulled up inside the ECU by Vc so in that sense it does share it. Just not in the AFM.
