ok My 87 n/a auto is having problems. It runs great driving down the road but when I come to a stop or when I first start it up it runs shitty tries to die and sometimes will.I also noticed that it gets worse when I turn on my lights or stereo or heater. The only codes I get are for the tranny netural saftey switch and #1 speed sensor (which I have no idea where it is behind the dash) and #2 silionid. I replaced my water temp and O2 sensors. Checked the timing and belt and TPS and all are good. cats not plugged. I changed plugs wires cap and rotor. Dont think its BHG cause not getting hot and no smoke or water in oil. all vaccum lines( I replaced 90% of them and intake look good. But I did notice that there wasnt any gaskets between the throttle body and manifold (should there be any ? ). since it gets worse when I turn on a accessories Im thinking maybe Coil ? Alternator ? battery ?(butt its only about 6 months old). or a short somewhere?

Im thinking about going to get a bigger coil like an excel super coil. Do they make one for the mkiii? also what is the volts for the stock one?

Any help would be great

Thanks
Mark

have u checked all you power and ground cables for corrosion. Also your Alternator Fuse may have corrosion causing a good voltage drop.

There is suppose to be a gasket between the TB and Y pipe. Most are a thin metal with a raised neopreme gasket. If you don't have one it will suck air and possibly cause the problem you have

Actually I was talking about the gasket between the y pip and the manifold
Either one, they have to be sealed with a gasket.
When you turn on your accessories it puts a little more drag on the motor and if it's not running right it will stall. Fix air leak first then see if that corrects the stalling. Important that as Yota said good grounds for everything else to work properly.
I have the original 88 alternator on mine, they usally last, and orig. coil, very seldom they short out and they are good for up to more HP than you can make on a NA.

thanks. I figured there should be one there and thought it was strange there wasnt. I will put a gasket in there first than go from there. if I cant find a gasket I will try and do the redneck way and use a cereal box. What should I ask for when going to the parts store?

also I dont know whats up with TSRM but whenever I go there the page has nothing on it. It has all the options but no info. anyone else have this problem?

please keep the ideas coming. I will keep you informed.

Thanks
Mark

The Y pipe gasket has a piece that stretches accross between the pipe to the two holes that is part of the gasket. Its a thin paper gasket. Thats the easiest way to see if there is one on now. If you took the pipe off and it wasn't there then light gasket material sounds like the solution to the problem of dieing after deceleration. Engines have a tendency to die after revving if there is a large vacuum leak.
Just make your own, its really simple and all you need is a ball peen hammer and the gasket material.
here is another site to look at the TSRM but the problem is probably your browser settings.

You can even download the whole thing to your PC.

thanks ya i found out that TSRM will open with explorer but not with firefox. I dont know why i went there all the time before with firefox.

I just went and bought the complete throttle body gasket set it was only 12 bucks. while Im at it I will change them all.hopefully it does the trick cause if I cant figure it out I will be forced to sell it.which I dont want to do.

Thanks again everyone and I will keep you informed on what happens.
