hey all, someone stripped a bolt for the y-pipe support bracket, and i picked up a helicoil kit to fix the damn thing.

only problem is, the hardware store didnt actually have a helicoil kit. i picked up a box of m8x1.25 coils and a handle. the package didnt have instructions on it (shit) so i need to know if anyone else has repaired a thread using this size.

whats the drill and tap size for an m8x1.25 helicoil?

3/8" NC I would think. Thread a coil into a variety of nuts to find what the exact coil thread specs are. Then drill the hole to be 3/32 of an inch smaller than the coil diameter. Or maybe simpler, just go to an auto parts store and see what they can do for you as far as matching you up with the right bit and tap.

Take that shit back to the hardware store and get the kit. It has everything you need, and instructions, too.

Get it at auto parts store. ACE harware. True Value. Carquest.

got it taken care of, turns out it was an 11/32 bit and a m10x1.5 tap. measured the thread pitch on the outside of the helicoil and just looked at a tap chart from there.

thanks all
