Ok, this is probably not that serious, but since I'm sitting at a computer at school with nothing to do, I figured I'd ask.

About an hour ago my heater started doing some funky shit. The fan speed would vary a little when I had it set to Medium, and the heat, which is usually good and warm though never hot, turned ice cold (it's about 25 degrees outside). My engine temp was reading at about 25% or 30%, which is normal for my car. I did a HG job about 6 months ago, put in a Titan 1.4mm MHG, new cyl. head and new cam shafts. I didn't do the job, but i guy I know that owns a shop did, and he does good work. After the HG job and a 160 degree thermostat, she's always run good and cool. So I'm certain it's not a HG again. Also, my bird cage has started lighting up when i take a hard left (virtually every left). My first guess is that I've got a slow coolant leak and that I'm running low. That could mean I'm not getting good flow through the heater core, and that would give me cold air, right? I know that checking coolant is easy, but I was in a rush to get to class and my car was nice and warm, so I wanted to let it sit for a bit before i popped off the rad. cap. Besides possibly a faulty HVAC control unit (which it could be... it's 19 years old after all), does anyone know of anything else it might be?

Any input would be great, thanks!

Check the vsv valve and make sure the solonoid is opening it allowing coolant to go through the htr core, you could even zip tie it open to test it out, I had the same problem when I got my car, I just zip tied it and left it go..

i had something like that with my car...minus the heater problems...though my heat would never bee the same temp and my overflow tank was always empty seemed to me.

turns out it was a pin hole sized leak in the hose that goes to the TB from the ISC..i couldn't even see it..a buddy of mine managed to catch it....thanks god...replaced it and filled it up and bled it out a bit and now i have tons of heat and no more bird cage during cornering.
