Heat trace on crank

Hi, i notice some heat mark on the crank near the rod. Is that normal??? It may sound like a newbie question but its my first engine job.

Not the best pics in the world but you get the idea.

That would be where the journals were induction hardened. It is normal.

oh i see, i wasn't sure why that was there either
