If you bought a turbo off someone for 177 bucks put it on lubed it accordingly and the seals went out in 50 miles what would a reasonable amount to ask back from the person when it *had* 20 k on the clock?

If you paid 177.00 for a turbo, you won't be getting anything back. Sorry, but that's life. You have no way of proving there was anything wrong with it when he sold it to you. I'm sure you checked for shaft play and nicks in the wheel, so the fault lies with you. Now you can save up and have it rebuilt and you'll know what you're getting.................lol

thank you jay. on top of that, it was TESTED when it first came off my spare motor. it didn't smoke then, sat on my shelf in my garage for a year and then i decided to sell it because i needed the money recently because i haven't been workign and i need to pay bills.

there you go, question answered. shoulda checked everything over really well before something gets dropped into the car. just like an engine swap, i'd never dream of buying one that they state is 'leakdown tested, compression tested, cleaned up and replaced seals' without checking everything myself.

1slo92, no offense man, but if you paid him and everything was o.k. then you've just got to suck it up. Turbo's mess up. It's a fact of life. Mine is practically new and I'm taking it off tomorrow to have the wastegate fixed. good luck...............lol

As far as im concerned that was a good bit of info to include. When you said it didn't smoke when you took it off i figured you took it off recently, not over a damn year ago. umm, im pretty sure i said i took it off of my spare engine when i got it last november. w/e bro, paypal is backing me up as well, and it was a used part. ontop of that, there is no way of onfirming that you primed it anyway. im under the conclusion that you didnt prime it and thats what made the seals shot.

Ok you can question how I good I took care of the turbo when it was in my possession, but I can't question the fact of if was in good shape before I bought it? It makes no sense to me. Im telling you I asked on here the proper way to "lube" the turbo before firing it. I also read a article on turbo's at work on my lunch break recomending to pour a decent amount into the turbo before installation. Check on that one, then the advice I got here "remove EFI fuse, crank untill oil pressure gets up", cranked a total of a minute and a half. Tell me that wasn't enough to make sure it was properly lubed. But it's like you said you don't know for sure if I did it right? Well it comes back to I don't know if you sold me a junk turbo knowingly.

hey, you get what you pay for. If you wanted a new turbo you should have bought one. Buying a used turbo is pretty much rolling the dice...This goes for everyone else on this forum thinking about buying a used turbo...listen up!

A used turbo is a used turbo...if you chose to take the risk , accept the consequences.

...and yes, I bought a used turbo from somone here...havent put it on yet, but there is one thing I will bet money on...if there is any problem with it, bitching about it in an open forum or even in PM's wont be happening. I'll chalk it up to experience and a "core" and move on. nuff said!
