harmonic balancer prob

my balancer came off when i was idleing the other day and i just got around to getting in to it it didnt hurt anything not even the belt is the balancer soppose to have a key way or something there to hold the ppully in place because mine doesnt and i just bought the car and the guy thought it was a rod so any help is appresated

Yes there should be a key there. A loose pulley will sound like a rod knock.

I'd inspect that keyway very carefully. This failure usually damages it.

i ment in the balancer its self is there a key way and i did earlier i will again tho before i put it back on thanks for the quick response
